A lovely morning spent with a group of digital leads from primary schools in RCT. I was invited to meet with them and present my thoughts on the ethics around generative AI. Lots of fascinating discussions. This critical AI literacy morning focussed the social, intellectual and environmental issues around the use of generative AI technology. Areas of focus - 'ghost workers', hyper scale data centres, bias, copyright, cognitive offloading, mental health and 'hallucinations'. Based on a couple of chats I had with the leads after the session, I think it opened their eyes to some of the harms caused by this technology that they were not aware of.
"Just because we can, does that mean we should?"
