This just popped up on my business Facebook page and it got me a little irritated. Why? Well, the generative AI hype had/has such lofty ambitions of curing cancer or solving climate change. Who's to say, at some point in the distant future, maybe it will. I don't have a crystal ball. However, in the meantime we have to put up with the nonsense like the above screen shot. Meta, Google, OpenAI, etc. are all ratcheting up the building of hyper scale data centres across the world, with increasing reliance on fossil fuels and even nuclear, and increasing carbon emissions. As well as the global impact there is the local environmental impact in many instances because of the huge amount of freshwater and power that these centres consume, as well as the noise. So, we're negatively impacting the environment and society, all so that this poxy, Meta AI Chatbot can tell you how to remember what f@*king year we are in!!! 😡
